Download Free Job in PDF by J. Gerald Janzen Full eBook and published by Westminster John Knox Press. This book was released on 1986 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, J. Gerald Janzen examines the text of the book of Job as a literary text within the context of the history of the religion of Israel and within the broader context of the universal human condition. He approaches the basic character of the book from a literary perspective which enables him to identify human existence as exemplified in Job and to expound on the mystery of good and evil, which gives human existence its experiential texture and which together drive humans to ask the same kind of questions asked by Job. This is the first full-length commentary to present Job systematically and literarily.

Download Free Semitic Words in Egyptian Texts of the New Kingdom and Third Intermediate Period in PDF by James E. Hoch Full eBook and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2014-07-14 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Semitic words and names appear in unprecedented numbers in texts of the New Kingdom, the period when the Egyptian empire extended into Syria-Palestine. In his book, James Hoch provides a comprehensive account of these words--their likely origins, their contexts, and their implications for the study of Egyptian and Semitic linguistics and Late-Bronze and Iron-Age culture in the eastern Mediterranean. Unlike previous word catalogs, this work consists of concise word studies and contains a wealth of linguistic, lexical, and cultural information. Hoch considers some five hundred Semitic words found in Egyptian texts from about 1500 to 650 b.c.e. Building on previous scholarship, he proposes new etymologies and translations and discusses phonological, morphological, and semantic factors that figure in the use of these words. The Egyptian evidence is essential to an understanding of the phonology of Northwest Semitic, and Hoch presents a major reconstruction of the phonemic systems. Of equal importance is his account of the particular semantic use of Semitic vocabulary, in contexts sometimes quite different from those of the Hebrew scriptures and Ugaritic myths and legends. With its new critical assessment of many hotly debated issues of Semitic and Egyptian philology, this book will be consulted for its lexical and linguistic conclusions and will serve as the basis for future work in both fields. Download Free The Source in PDF by John Clayton Full eBook and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2010-06-15 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the origin of the world and of life itself? Did a series of accidents and evolution bring about the world as we know it? Or is there a design and purpose behind it all? And if there is a design, is there an ultimate designer? A number of years ago, John Clayton, a second-generation atheist and respected scientist and teacher, set out to disprove the Bible from a scientific point of view. Instead, his six-year study brought him to a profound faith in the God of the Bible. Now, in this highly informative and easy to understand book, John Clayton and Nils Jansma -- a geotechnical engineer and geologist -- present convincing evidence that the Bible and the facts of science agree. As the public moves away from a belief in God as Creator of our heaven and earth, it becomes imperative that all believers be well informed on this vital subject. This book will become a resource you will use again and again.

Download Free Genesis, Science, and the Beginning in PDF by Benjamin D. Smith Full eBook and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-08-29 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christian apologist Ben Smith believes that the creation account in Genesis 1 can be read literally and historically as a real week of seven normal days without contradicting modern astronomy and geology regarding the age of the universe and Earth. Many Christians are divided over how to reconcile Genesis with modern science, and this book evaluates all of the major options, ultimately concluding that the Bible allows for an old universe and Earth in a way that is also scientifically accurate. A former Young Earth creationist, Smith now believes that the age of creation is not specified in the Bible, and therefore scientists are free to answer the question. He believes that Christians should not hide from the controversy over the age of the Earth, but should take a fresh look at the text and be impressed with its accuracy.
